Anne Bonny
A Durance-class tramp freighter, the Anne Bonny began its service more than fifty years ago. One of a dozen similar ships commissioned for Dosojin Transport, it is unclear exactly which of the twelve ships that the Bonny began life as.
What is known is that at some point, this vessel came into the possession of the later Claire O’Rourke who quickly upgraded the freighter to turn it into a pirate vessel. Now equipped with a pair of pulse lasers and a terrifying torpedo launcher (salvaged from a derelict Ducal Navy warship crippled in an ambush attack), the Anne Bonny began plying the trade lanes, using the cover of the ongoing civil war to hide many of her more malicious actions.
More recently, the Bonny accepted a mysterious job to capture the Abzu’s Bounty, a private salvage craft that had recently discovered something … unexpected in the Graveyard. The payment for this job was more than enough to make O’Rourke ignore her instincts … and as a result, this got her killed.

At over fifty years old, this vessel is definitely showing its age. It is known for the following quirks:
- Inappropriate Computers: The main drive cannot be powered up except by a hand computer in the engine room thanks to some hurried repairs from a void-fight some years ago. It works for the current crew, but new hands take a while to get used to it. For an upgrade costing 25% of the cost of the standard computers (40,000 credits), the systems can be integrated properly and the quirk eliminated.
- Noisy Air System: The air system makes whirring and occasional thunking noises. Annoying. Overhauling the air system, at a cost equal to 5% of the cost of the accommodations, eliminates this Quirk. Confidence Index (CI) –5% for passengers only.
- Sketchy History: The ship is known to have conducted illegal activity in the past under its current name. Renaming the ship is possible, which upgrades the quirk to “Repeatedly Renamed”, above. Renaming, however, may be a substantial bureaucratic hassle and not-inconsequentially expensive, and involves the bureaucracy running background checks on the ship and its owner, and so may be more trouble than it’s worth. CI –10%.
- Slow Refuel: The ship takes 150% of the usual refueling time. Replacing the fuel feeds will cost 1% of the hull cost and take a few days. CI -3% for layovers (passengers or cargo going further than one fuel stop)..
- Tacky Decor: The living space aboard ship is tackily decorated. An upgrade costing 10% of the cost of the crew accommodations will eliminate this Quirk. CI –5% for passengers only.
-
Unregistered Weapons: The torpedo launcher on this boat has been salvaged from a Ducal Navy warship that was ambushed and destroyed. There will be legal consequences if authorities discover this…
I used the Exeter design by Ryan Wolfe for this with very few changes. Buy his stuff.
